VMware ESXi 5 UEFI mode or Legacy mode

Dear All,

Does someone know the benefit of VMware ESXi installation with UEFI mode?

Began from ESXi 5.x, VMDK supports > 2 TB. VMware ESXi can be installed with HDD > 2 TB in Legacy mode.

UEFI mode is not required to support HDD > 2 TB.

I want to know what benefit of VMware ESXi installation with UEFI mode?

Regards,

C.L.

The primary benefit UEFI has is that it shortens the boot time.

Keep in mind that there is no support available in VMware ESX/ESXi 4.0.x/4.1.x for UEFI. It is supported only on ESXI 5.x

Network boot of VMware ESXi or provisioning with VMware Auto Deploy requires the legacy BIOS firmware and is not available with UEFI.

Booting ESXi from an iSCSI target is not supported in UEFI boot mode. Refer to “ESXi Booting Requirements” section available in VMware document: vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center
