VMware ESX 4.1 vs MS hyper v

Guys,

I have to do the testing using both and have to analyse the performance of the vm's across them and convince the client for using it. My buy is with VMware.

Can you guys help me in seggregating few points for putting more weight on VMware side so that I can club my points with yours and have a discussion with the client.

There are different reasons. And in Partner Network there are also some interesting (but I cannot share them) documents.

ESXi is a very specialized OS specifically created for one thing only -- Virtualization. Hyper-V is still Windows.

ESXi is very much like firmware, an update is a complete replacement of the OS as a package. If an update should fail for some reason there is  an instant rollback to the previous install with Shift + R at boot.  Hyper-v patches are individual changes to the OS just like in a normal Windows install. It requires too many restarts for patches and configuration changes.

ESXi requires a supported hardware platform and virtualization caliber drivers, tested and approved to support the rigors of virtualization. Hyper-V does not have strict hardware or driver requirements. Any offbrand component or driver can be used.
