VMware 6.5 to 7.0 license

I have a 10CPU license and using 4 in production. I have server running 7.0 and need a license from 10CPU on 6.5

Is it best to divide the license? If so what impact will this have on the production server running 6.5

Should I upgrade 6 of 10 CPU to version 7? If so what impact will this have on the production server running 6.5

In the end I need to not affect the servers running 6.5 (4 CPU) and still get the new servers licensed running 7. thanks

Hi,

Divide is correct solution for your environment. After dividing and upgrade licenses on Customer connect webpage you have to implement new licenses in license managers on both servers. Finally you must assign newly generated licenses to hosts and delete old licenses keys.

It shouldn't impact your production.

There's no technical impact.
However, once you divide the existing license key, you'll get new license keys. To be compliant with licensing from a legal point of view, assign the new 6.x license keys to your 6.x hosts. This replacement can be done during production, and does not have any impact.

Bear in mind that 6.5 is no longer supported, so you might not want to keep it in production.
