VMs spend more space then HDD size

Hi,

could anybody explain me why in vCenter I can see that my VM is using 120 GB of space, BUT the actual hdd size of the VM is 40GB? Where is the 80GB? Thank you

I guess this size difference comes from having snapshots on your VM. Each snapshot can grow up to the size of the actual disk.

Check your VM for existing snapshots.

There is no snapshot for the VM. ScreenHunter_08 Feb. 08 14.31.jpg

Hi,

can you please post a screenshot of the edit settings tab of the VM with the hard disk selected?

Are you using linked clones?

ScreenHunter_09 Feb. 08 15.02.jpg It is a VM from Lab Manager and it is a linked clone.

I'm not familiar with lab manager, as it was canceled some years ago.

But since your first screenshots show similar provisioned space levels for multiple VMs, I expect the linked clones to somehow confuse the provisioned space calculation.

Maybe some else knows more.
