Have you cleaned up the VM from vendor specific drivers and software since the conversion? Sounds like there's a process blocking the shutdown of the OS.

I would say the troubleshooting should be on the guest OS W2K3. Please check the Event Viewer. Also please analyse the dump files if available.

You might want to "plug power cord off".

Go to ESX console,

># ps -ef | grep vmx

Find corresponding vmx and

># kill -9 ---

Power off the VM through the console is OK.but can not shutdown in the guest OS.

Guest OS log seems ok,and the source physical server these VMs converted from can shutdown.

I also suspect those driver in the begining, then i uninstalled all those driver and related software and reinstall the vmware tools, but had no luck.

Before shutdown, there are no disk writing data.once i shutdown the vm,disk writing throughout produced.
