VMotion - Physical Switch Configuration

Hello all,

Shall we do some special configruations for phyiscal switch used for vMotion traffic in vSphere 5?

as we know, the special settings need to be done in the physical Switch when conneccting iSCSI traffic, so how about vMotion traffic?

Kind regards

Hello Alex

I recommend to create a VLAN dedicated for Vmotion and you must use trunked ports in the phtsical switch.

No specific MTU settings are required for vMotion, but portfast should be enabled (assuming your switch is Cisco here).

If possible use a different VLAN.

In vSphere 5 you can also use more interfaces to increase the speed of a vMotion operation.

VLAN will be best practice with trunk for switch to switch connection.
