Dear community,
I've read/seen that the latest release of VMWare (ESXi) 7 still uses OpenSSL 1.0.2zf, while OpenSSL 3.1.2 is the most recent version.
Does anyone know if VMWare 7 will remain on the OpenSSL 1.02zf-version or will it be updated to a more recent version in one of the next updates?
Reason for sticking to VMWare 7 is that I'm getting a warning that the CPU (Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1245 v5 @ 3.50GHz) is probably not going to be supported in future VMWare (ESXi) 8-versions. The following question comes to mind: Will it be probable for VMWare stop support for the CPU during version 8.0 or will it apply to 8.1 or higher? I can't risk updating to VMWare 8 to recieve all the application and security benefits of OpenSSL 3.x.x and risk not getting updates on the OS (VMWare 8.0) in the future because the CPU is not supported any longer within the 8.0.x-version.
I can't speak for VMware, but from the experience of the last years, support for CPU's has not been removed within a given release.
Putting https://www.vmware.com/resources/compatibility/detail.php?deviceCategory=cpu&productid=110&vcl=true an https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/82794 together, I'd guess that support for the v5 models might be removed with a later version, but not in 8.0.

VMware's Hardware Compatibility Guide should help answer your questions. Given the CPU model you've provided, it appears to be supported in vSphere 8.0 and 8.0 U1.

can also confirm the two users above, it will work on that.
