Hi All,
We are medium size none critical company when it come to the
servers and IT service. We currently hold 10 physical servers which in the future
will be on virtual environment. We already have VMware ESXi 4 running which
currently holding 3 VMs.
We have bought very powerful server which can hold more than
15 VMs.
Server spec:
2 Physical processors each with 6 cores
16GB Memory
2TB internal hard disk
4 * gigabit network card
I am not sure that I should install VMware ESXi or a paid
version of VMware vSphere. The new server will hold critical server such as
exchange, BES, Finance server. We do not want to spend more than £1000 on
VMware license. The VMware vSphere 4 Essentials Bundle does meet our
requirements and it is under budget. I was looking at VCB guide and it maybe useful
but it required lots of configuration, SAN/NAS and extra money (agents from
third party backup software).
We do have NAS and it is attached to network switch. I did
try to backup to NAS (70GB) and it took about 6 hours using Veem free software.
Should I go for free version or VMware vSphere 4 Essentials
Bundle?
Thanks
>>What benefits will i get over free version other then VCB?
Well with VCB you can make fully backups of you vms, but you can also use with free ESXi tools for free like GHettoVCB.

Well it always depends on what are you need for your company.
If you don't wan't to spend too much money I would suggest to buy the Essential Plus Bundle, because you have here HA possible to use.
Here you can compare editions.

Thanks for your very quick reply.
I did look it that chart before but Essential Plus cost more than £2000 which is out of budget.
Is it worth to spend £800 for Essential basic version instaed of free version? What benefits will i get over free version other then VCB?
Thank
