Take a look here - http://www.vm-help.com/esx/esx3i/ESXi_35_common_issues.php#Unable_to_find_a_supported_device. It's for 3.5 but you have the same issue. If you then go to the homepage you'll find the hardware list for 4.0

Do you have a system or PCI card working with VMDirectPath? Submit your specs to the Unofficial VMDirectPath HCL - http://www.vm-help.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21.

The Sata HDD of your machine may not be supported. If it is not supported the driver will not be loaded and ESXi unable to find out your Disks.

You would need to add a NIC that ESXi can recognize. See vm-help.com for that list.

You can add something like an Intel Pro 1000 GT or head over to vm-help.com for a realtek driver.
