Welcome,

HP  DL380 G7 with 6 x 3 TB disks (or 2 TB). ESXI 5.1 free ,

How to make VM with 12 TB logical disk ?

Does Logical disk in controller could be larger than 2 TB - 512B ?

Is it possible to test it on vmware workstation ?

you could make ~6 2tb vmdks and span or strip them

http://sparrowangelstechnology.blogspot.com/2012/10/how-to-get-drive-in-windows-larger-than.html

that should work to get you around the 2tb limit

given that you dont have a san, where RDM would be ideal for you,

I would still recommened splitting your drives up so that the vmdks are independent

if you cant do that, the above link should get you what you need

that would not be  a fair test - Workstation can already use 12 TB vmdks

ESXi still has the 2Tb limit.
Cant you use a RDM ?

Welcome to the Community,

although VMware supports LUNs with up to ~64TB, there are some limitations for some SmartArray controllers due to driver issues (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2006942). Anyway, even if you were able to create a larger logical volume this wouldn't help much, since the virtual disks (.vmdk files) are still limited to 2TB minus 512 bytes.

Idk if i can use RDM

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101753...

Creating Raw Device Mapping (RDM) is not supported for local storage

but there is no esxi 5.1

So what is best way to create vm with 12 TB disk in esxi 5.1 free?
