VM testing on ESXi host with in vCenter

Hello All,

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I'm looking for different ways to test my infrastructure with VM's running in a vCluster.

For example: as I'm running a process with in the quest OS of a VM I'll do a vMotion. A few other I can think of are Storage vMotion, creating a snapshot, removing a snapshot, power down an ESXi host with running VM's and pulling network cables or doing a no-shut for the port from the network switch. I'll have HA configured during the testing as well as the vmnic's in a trunk on the switch.

I'm really looking for other things I can do to test that I may be over looking.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions.

Cheers,

Mr. Johnson

1. Major clustering features are as follows(ESXi Host clusters):

DRS, DPM, HA, FT.

2. If you want to test SDRS, then please create datastore cluster. You can even test SIOC on individual datastores.

3. Other operations that can be even done without cluster: Snapshot, cloning, template, vMotion, Storage vMotion, alarms, add/remove host into vCenter or cluster, keeping host into maintenance mode, keeping datastore in maintenance mode (it requires DS cluster) etc.

Note: Above list is not exhaustive, there are several other small tasks can be performed. Make sure you have appropriate licenses.

Let me know if you need any help on any operation.
