VM network label

Can you change the Network Label on a powered on virtual machine or is it best to shutdown and then change it?  Im not changing network adapter type just network label(VM port group).  Using vsphere client and ESXi 5.1

Changing the port group for a VM can be done online. Remember that this is like pulling the network cable on a physical system and re-plugging it into another switch port.

You can change the virtual machine network label online, but you may face packet drop ,

Max one or two packets drops are expected.
