VM has lost a VMDK and now refuses to start, can't seem to remove this resource

I have a vm that had a vmdk added to it, one that resided on a foreign vmfs (datastore). That datastore's since gone bang and I will never see that vmdk again. Problem is the vm will no longer start because it can't access that resource. Attempting to remove the disk via vSphere's "edit settings" menu fails with error "Invalid configuration for device '0'"

Is there a sneakier way of getting rid of this resouce as the vm is no longer usable.

Edit .vmx file in text editor and remove links to bad vmdk.

Easiest bet is simply to remove this VM from the inventory, and recreate the VM shell from scratch, adding the VMDKs which are still visible.

Brilliant! Just commented out all references to SCSI(0:2), took me a while to figure out to to get the file re-cached so the changes would be acknowledged.. deregister-reregister seemed the easied way.

Thanks!
