VM hardware version and host versions

How to see VM version? Is it hardware version or software version under summary of each VM?

Where to find exsi host version? I only see version under license?

Thanks!

Yes you need to upgrade it. may be your new company fellas did not upgrade it Smiley Wink

Now you upgrade all the versions to the latest and supported version and clean up. you can take a screenshot, save it as an image and add it to the reply using the camera symbol on top tab in the reply window.

If you have no more questions please close the thread by choosing a correct answer so others can refer to it in future Smiley Happy

the vm version you can also see through the summary tab by vm version.  This is the virtual hardware version.

when you select the host you can see the build on the top of the summary tab.

1)  To see VM version ..just click on vm and in the summery tab and under General you will see VM version like 8 or 10..

2)  To check host verion ..click on host and in the right side on the top it will show host version like..host ip than Vmware Esxi 5.1 or somthing..

more about host you can check in configration tab..

Thanks

Yours, Phillips

When you click on VM and go to summary tab like shown below you will find VM version.

VM version.jpg

For host version, click on a Host and above summary, performance and all those thongs in the top right you will see the ESXi version.

Thank you for all replies.

1) But I want to find out hardware version 7 or 8 or 9 to match vmware version

2)  I don't see it in EXSI host verions under summary.

We don't have vCenter (believe it or not) since it is installed on Linux by someone. Now I need to verify all the versions and build #.

I can see some version --enterprise ...under license of Summary tab for the host.

Sorry i did not understand your requirement.

What i think you are telling is that you need to know what all versions of hardware that are supported on your ESXi? You will not find any hardware versions under summary of ESXi host. You need to look under summary tab of each Virtual machine to know its version.

The Enterprise you see under your license is not the version. Its the type of license you have for your host.

Also, you don't need vCenter to know the version of your host or Virtual machine. you can directly see it when you log in into the host too Smiley Happy

Thank you. I  can see version 4 or 7 or 8 on most of VM, not sure why it shows different version . Does that mean version 4 is on exsi 3.5 per the link below? There are possibly two reasons for that --on exsi 3.5 when the host is upgraded and hardware upgrade has never done on client Or it is really on EXSi 3.5 but thye told me they only had EXSi 4 version http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=100374...

Which version of ESXi are you running? You can always upgrade the VM harware version for VM's.

When you click on host you will see the ESXi version.

See the screenshot below. After you see the ESXi see what all version it supports. I think ESXi version 4 supports Hardware version 4 too.
