I have a small VMWare deployment using Essentials.
On one server, I'm trying to shut down a Windows Server 2003 VM - it won't shut down, and it won't power off or on. It was stuck in a power off state at 95%, and has been that way for 30 minutes. - Then it logged "An error occurred while communicating with the remote host".
Now, it is in a pseudo on/off state. The summary says that it is Powered On, yet all operations state that "The attempted operation cannot be performed in the current state (Powered Off).
Help!!
Ok - things 'magically' started working again. The VM finally powered off all the way when I connected to the physical host, rather than the vCenter server. Of course, I was not able to connect to the physical host at all while the VM was in it's '95% Power Off completed' phase - but only after the VM was in the inconsistent state (as reported by vCenter).
This VMware system is not working correctly.
Anyone have any ideas as to what could cause this?
Thanks - Joe
Not enough information. Go through your log files to see if anything looks like it might apply. Go through the Event logs to see if anything applies. Windows Update?
