VM and vswitch

I'm not too familiar with certain aspects of the networking side of the house and dealing with the weight of the load to get things working, but I have a question.

Two VMs on the same host server and they go out the same vswitch.

If I copy data between them, does the vswitch understand to route the data between the VMs and not have to route throughout the entire network?

Hello.

A virtual switch is a software program – a logical switching fabric that emulates a switch as a layer-2 network device. A virtual switch ensures the same functions as a regular switch, with the exception of some advanced functionalities.

I attach a link that can help you to understand the VMware vswitch.
