VM Hot Add Memory fails

I have a VM whose hot add for the memory is enabled. But, when we try to reconfigure the VM by increasing the memory it fails with the error message "The hot plug operation failed". Error stack shows that "The source detected that the destination failed to resume" which appears to be kind of vmotion kind of error though the operation invoked is not migration.I have enough space in my datastore which eliminates the question of me not having space for my swap file. I don't find any thing which points to this even in the VM or host logs. Any idea what might be causing this?

What is the version of vCenter, ESXi, VM Hardware and VMware license?

In order to use hot add, vmware tools must be installed on the virtual machine. Can you check VMware tools? Also, couldn't there be free space left in the datastore? When you increase the memory, you should have free space in the datastore because the vswp file will also grow.

Also what vmware license do you use?

VMware Tools is running version 11264-11.0.0.

I have good number of space in my datastore which is more then sufficient for the vswp file to grow..

Could you try hot-add again and after failure paste vmware.log from this VM?

Current available memory installed is 75GB increasing up to 256GB. enough free space available in datastore. but still showing
