VM Data Recovery

Hi,

I was testing backing up a vm using data recovery 1.2.

Once the backup was complete, i deleted the vm from vcenter.

Then I tried restoring the vm from the backup taken from data recovery.

The thing with the restore is that the name of the vm was not the same as the original.

Instead it added a "copy" to the vm name. Eg instead of wmserver its vmserver copy.

Even the vmdk, vmx, vmxf, etc all has "copy" added into the file name.

Anyone has any idea why this is so?

How can i get rid of the "copy" being added?

Have you checked if it was already gone from the NTFS VMFS storage?

And by NTFS storage I think AWo means VMFS storage.

You might have clicked "delete from inventory" in your ESXi server and not "remove from disk/storage" , which will just remove the VM from ESXi but will keep the vmdk files etc. on your storage. So your restore name would already be taken and would need to be renamed like _copy or _1.

Well I am quite sure i used "detele from disk"  when deleting the vm. I also check the VMFS it seems to have been deleted.

I tried creating a new vm with the same name and also checked the vmfs. All was without _copu or _1 so it must have been deleted off correct the same time.

I then delete the new vm again and run the restore but it still appends a "copy" to the vm name.

Are you sure that this is not a test recovery? If you use that function a guest is recovered with the extension "Probe_" (from the German manual). Maybe the name has changed or is different in the English manual.
