VDR Questions

Is there a way to estimate disk storage space needed to perform VDR backups? Is it 1-to-1 or I thought I read somewhere about deduplication also built into the product.

Is there 3rd party backup software that can write these backups to tape? We use Backup Exec and Tivoli

What triggers a backup? I created a backup job for a test server and it successfully ran, but what happens next?

Thanks

Yes, it is built-in, so no way to predict, it all depends on real data size and data type.

Any software that can write to tape. VDR backup datastore is just a bunch of files, so you can use CIFS (SMB) share as destination and write these files with your favorite tool.

VDR works on a schedule. You trigger it or auto backup weekly or daily, however you want. VDR is an on demand appliance. There is no way to setup a threshold (like when 20% of a VM is changed for instance) backup, although that is a good idea.
