Using directpath to redirect a soundcard

Hey

I am running a test to get a soundcard to work within an esxi installation.

This is the hardware im running on:

vmware esxi 5.0 U1

Win7 X64

Onboard soundcard - reaktek ALC269 HD Audio (VEN_10EC&DEV_0269)

I have redirected the sound card to the machine and i have installed the driver.

the problem is that i still don't get any devices.

Any help will be very appreciated!

Best regards

Andreas

i am just trying to confirm, what is the hardware version of the VM?

Also, is the card reaktek ALC269 supported for passthrough from vmware?

hi

The hardware version is ESXI 5.0 Update 1

I am not sure it is supported, but it is visible to the virtual machine

The realtek software even notices when i connect a headset to the machine.

But for some reason i can see the devices

ohh, I am unsure and not at the hardware right now,

The machine is created via the gui and i selected windows 7 x64

if that doesn't answer your question, I will answer it as soon as I get home from work.

ok. cool.  The reason I am asking is that with HW8, an audio driver has been shipped.

Maybe but its like there is no real connection to the sound. Like what I see is only some virtual thing.

I can't get it working with the idea in the link. But if i use passthrough i can "play" sound to the card. but it is just noise comming out of the speakers.

I got it fixed. I ended up not using the onboard soundcard, I just can't get it working the other way.

Instead I added a usb device and a usb soundcard, that worked like a charm.

If anyone got an idea how to get the onboard soundcard working, please tell me!
