Using datastores

Hi everyone,

I have installed ESXi 5.1 on HP Proliant DL380P G8 yesterday. It has eight 600 GB SAS hard and two of them are RAID-1 and six of them are RAID-5. The VMs will locate on RAID-5 logical drive. I have installed ESXi on RAID-1 logical drive and about 500 MB is free on it. Ho can I use this free space? I don't want place any VM on it. Can I share this free space so another clients see its contents? OR ANYTHING ELSE?

Thank you so much indeed.

Local disk can not shared...if you planning to use not for vm purpose...one way create nfs datastore.

It can be mount  any where...

For this install any Linux flavor, and map the space as vmdk in vm, and create nfs share

In my opinion it's a waste to create a separate RAID1 set for ESXi. Once ESXi loads, it completely runs in memory. I'd actually create a single RAID5 set with all disks.
