Use rest of free space for datastore?

https://prnt.sc/n78sox

Hello,

I have 4x2TB HDs on the remote dedicated server and obviously if I use automated option it installs ESXi on 1 (2TB) HD. I would like to use the rest of free space for a datastore, possible? https://prnt.sc/n78sox

Thanks!

Very bad idea - now your complete datastore will be unusable if any of the 4 disks has a problem. DO NOT USE EXTENTS TO EXPAND A DATASTORE !
I would suggest to start over and then use disk 1 for the esxi install. Use disk 2 to create 2 tb datastore2. Use disk 3 to create a 2TB datastore3, disk 4  for datastore4.
You want a single large datastore ? - buy a raidcontroller

You should be able to use the Rest of the DS after the Installation is done 😉

Thanks for the reply!

That really sucks because lots of space being wasted. Only little over 1GB is needed for the installation

As far as I remember the So you Start / OVH installer will create a VMFS Volume on the rest of the Disk.

During install I select custom install and  create another partition for extra free space https://prnt.sc/n7kapw

In ESXi I'm able to add 3 disks as extent https://prnt.sc/n7kdcc

which makes this size of datastore https://prnt.sc/n7kcat but the last disk (4th) that has ESXi installed https://prnt.sc/n7ke1v  gives me this and error when I try to use free space https://prnt.sc/n7ker9

This is a remote server so raidcontroller is not an option. I will definitely take your advise and create datastore for each disk.

Thank you all!
