Currently we are running the e1000 and I would like t move to vmxnet3

every time I shut down a machine and attempt to change the card type is greyed out.  it wants me to add a new network card!  im thinking / hoping that there has to be a better / Faster Way to do this!

Could someone please assist?

Is there anyway to do it by upgrading?
or does it have to be the remove replace approach?

Nope . you need to remove it and add a new nic card with vmxnet3 version. so it can work correctly for you.

only remove and add a new one will work.

If you want to retain your MAC to be same as the previous one ,,, make a note of it ,,

and u can edit the mac to be static in vmx file as well or by the edit setting of network adapter property .. and use manual entry

ANd to change the adapter ,, you need to remove and add a new one and configure it
