Upgrade vmware tools

Hi,

i have an issue with the vmware tools version 9.4.5.32516 (ESXi Version 5.5.0,2718055)

I want to update the tools from a previous version on a linux suse guest. And the update failes. After it failes, the vm is locked and is not responding.

In the vSphere client the following message appears.

tools.JPG

I have to click OK. Prior to that, the vm is not available. If i upgrade a second time, the upgrade process runs fine.

If i do it the following way, the issue is not there.

First, mount update, copy files to the local machine, umount cd rom and update tools.

The VM was a SLES 11

Does anybody else have such issues? I didn´t have them before the current version of the tools. Never.

Thanks

Frank

You could check the vmware.log of the virtual machine to understand more about your case. It might be the same reason mentioned in the KB and looks like it is not updated for subsequent releases.

please follow below mentioned steps and re-install VM tool

With some guest operating systems, including Ubuntu Linux and Solaris, you might encounter problems installing VMware Tools when the guest CD-ROM drive is locked. The guest is prevented from noticing media changes and thus reading the VMware Tools ISO image in the guest's virtual CD-ROM drive.

To work around this problem, eject the CD-ROM from within the guest and retry the VMware Tools installation. In Ubuntu Linux and Solaris, right-click the CD-ROM icon and select Eject. In Solaris, you can also use the eject command from the command line prompt. For details, see the man page for the eject command (man eject).
