Upgrade to ESXi 4.1 U2 using Dell Customized ISO

I have an ESXi server running 4.1 U1 that I installed with the Dell customized ISO. I would like to upgrade with the 4.1 U2 Dell customized ISO they released so that I can upgrade the Dell specific bits too.

I tried upgrading using Update Manager, but it only updates ESXi: not the Dell specific parts. How do I upgrade the Dell specific customizations too?

If you're using the customised iso then it should install the dell drivers etc during the upgrade

Good day,

Perform a lookup of the installed Dell drivers with the following command

~ # esxcli software vib list | grep -i "dell"

Compare these driver versions with the latest releases on the Dell website according to your service tag.  Download these udates and install with your favorite tool - Update Manager, vCLI, etc.

All the best,

Mike

It doesn't look like that command works...maybe it's only for 5.0?

Of course, sorry about that.  Try

~ # ipkg list_installed

Found it here:

Nothing for Dell...

Then right now, you have no drivers from Dell - likely just the VMware supplied drivers. You may wish to download the drivers from the Dell site and manually install. When you enter your service tag, the as-shipped config will show the drivers you need.

You can also reinstall completely using the Dell custom ISO, using vMotion and maintenance mode, if you wish, to avoid VM downtime.
