Upgrade from non-HP ESXi to HP ESXi. Possible?

Hello guys,

I have a host (HP Proliant ML 350 G5) with plenty of guest VM's. The host was installed with a standard version of ESXi 4.0 (the ISO without the HP Insight management tools). I want to upgrade this host to the version of ESXi 4.1 WITH the HP Insight management tools.

What are my options?

Can I just upgrade to the version with the HP tools using the installable ISO?

Or is there perhaps a plugin for the HP Insight manager tools that I can just dump on top of the current install?

Anyone done this before, or do I have to backup all the VM's and start from scratch?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions/answers.

You cannot install management agents on ESXi. HP has updates for the CIMs and a NMI driver which can be updated but that is it. The main difference between the vmware iso and the hp iso are updated drivers and the updates to the CIMs

Hello,

Thanks for the helpful links, I have been searching HP's site for those. Smiley Happy

Just to clarify, I basically just want to be able to get the event from the SmartArray that I have a failed disk in the array. If the HP ISO is able to give me that info, and allows me to trigger an event based on it, then I will be happy. Smiley Happy

But, thats a bit off-topic alltogether.

Still want to know if its possible to "upgrade" the current without-hp-stuff install to a with-hp-stuff install without having to completely re-install ESXi (and without me actually attempting this and completely breaking it). :smileysilly:

Thank you.

Just some feedback.

I managed to install the HP CIM's using the offline bundle. Thank you very much for that.

I now have information available about the storage array as well as the individual disks in the array.

Now I must just figure out how to generate notifications if something goes bad.

Thanks again.
