What is difference between upgradation and Migration of esx/esxi host?

In my understading

Upgrade - > Upgrading the ESXi 4.x to ESXi 5.x

Migrating - > Migrating ESX versions to ESXi platform

MEANS ESX TO ESXI IS MIGRATION & ESXI TO ESXI IS UPGRADATION

Yes, Just as aravinds3107 said and you mention, thats what I know so far as well

Upgrade is the change from one version to the newer "major" release, like:

  • Upgrading ESXi 3.5 or ESXi 4.0 to ESXi 5.0
  • Upgrading Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008
  • or upgrading RHEL 5 to RHEL 6
  • The term upgrade refers to the replacement of a product with a newer version of the same product (wikipedia)

At the same time, Migration is moving between platforms, like:

But you are saying esx to esxi is also migration but arvind said esxi to esxi is migration which one is correct?
