Upgrade ESX 3.5i to vsphere 4 standard Edition

Hi,

I have a few question.

1) Is it possible to upgrade ESX 3.5i to vmware vshpere 4 standard edition on a single box assuming the box is 64-bit supported?

2) ESX 3.5i is a free version. When will one purchase to license the ESX 3.5i?

3) I have a friend who have purchased 3 x vsphee 4.0. Currently, there is a 3.5i running in the company. He has setup another 2 x vsphere 4.0. So there new 2 x vspher 4.0 has been license sucessfully. Can the ESX 3.5i be license too using the vsphere 4.0? Is there an option to key in the serial number?

Pleae advise

You cannot upgrade from ESXi to a full ESX.

But you can upgraded from a free ESXi 3.5 to a licensed version of ESXi 4.0.

The license key is valid both for full ESX and ESXi.

Can the ESX 3.5i be license too using the vsphere 4.0?

Yes. Use the old license server (you can found from vCenter 2.x download).
