Upgrade ESX 3.0.2 to Vsphere 4.0

Hello,

Can I upgrade a 32 bit ESX 3.0.2 installation to Vsphere 4.0? The CPU is 64 bit capable (Dual-Core AMD Opteron 2218). I've read articles that support a direct upgrade from ESX 3.0.2 to Vsphere 4.0 but I'm concerned with the 32 bit OS upgrade to the 64 bit Vsphere OS. Is that a factor?

Thanks,

Damon

You have to use the ISO, but the install will work just fine as long as it is a supported upgrade path. I've done several 3.5 to vsphere 4 upgrades, and no concern for 32 to 64 bit.

i don't see any reason for concern as long you CPU supports 64 bit...

Cheers

Am I correct in assuming that we'd shut down the guests, do the upgrade, and when the host has restarted and we start the guest machines, we'll simply need to update their Vmware Tools?  Thanks.
