Updat vmware from 6.5.0 U2 to 6.7

Hi, is it possible to update esxi from 6.5.0 u2 to later release? I saw some comments, it is not possible. How can I make update? Can I reinstall vmware over the old version for example by bootable flashdisk?

Thank you.

You should first downgrade to 6.5 u1 and then upgrade to any other version of ESXi 6.7 (u1, u2, u3)

or upgrade to 6.5 u3 and the next upgrade to version 6.7 u3.pastedImage_11.png

You can run both methods like the following command line:

esxcli software vib install -d /vmfs/volumes/datastore/esxi*.iso {path of file}

Yes, you can do a direct upgrade if your hardware is supported!

The only exception is an upgrade to the 6.7 GA version if you are running v6.5 U2 with a patch that has been released after the v6.7 GA launch.

However, if supported by your hardware, you may upgrade to v6.7 U3 anyway.

Thank you very much. Is this method safe for installed virtual hosts?

First I can try update to 6.5.0 U3 - I can try upgrade because our server is realy slow - hard disk performace. I hope upgrade can help with this.

Yes of course you can upgrade/downgrade ESXi with esxcli command-line without any problem, just for each version of VMware ESXi, check the hardware support especially about upgrade operations
