Understanding the reason behind VMCP Timeout in an APD state

Hi all,

So I've been reading a bit to understand a bit deeper how HA works and I came across VMCP. (https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2015/06/vm-component-protection-vmcp.html).

This will most likely be a simple question, but I don't understand the use of the VMCP Timeout in an APD state. Maybe it's the wording of the blogs/posts I'm reading, but I still don't get it. There is already an APD Timeout of 140 seconds, why do we need to add another 180 seconds (by default) after the APD Timeout before actions are taken against VMs ? Because my understanding is that no VMs will be restarted on any other hosts (being that HA is configured accordingly) until 320 seconds have passed.

If anybody can enlighten me, that would be much appreciated. 🙂

Thank you,

Guillaume.
