Logged into my ESXi 4 host with putty, and I find that I am unable to view the contents of "linked directories (short-cuts) such as "bootbank, altbootbank, locker, and scratch... etc.
I run ~# ls /bootbank
Any explanation?

Very strange.
What's the output of this command?
ls -la /

Seems that you do not have same mount point
The right part of the symlink must be dark blue and not light blue.
Check if df will print all the mount point.
Andre
I was thinking of running a repair of the hypervisor.

You're right about the right part of the symlink being dark blue and not light blue. I have compared this ESXi box to another and the output of "df" was different. There were a lot of mount ponts missing from the "bad" system. Question is how did that happen? ...and How do I get them back?

I think that you have to fix your installation and also check the status of your storage.
The missing area must also be visible in /vmfs/volumes...
But first make a backup of your VM.
Andre
That is the plan to take offline backups of the VM's and then run a repair to fix the installation.
Thanks for your replies Andre.

Well I ended up running the "REPAIR" wit the installation disk, and the results were that the filesystem was corrupt and a repar could not be performed and I was then forced to have to do a fresh-installation of the application.
I did have a backup of the guest vm's prior to attempting the repair so no worries regarding losing them.

A full re-installation was required to remedy this issue.
