Unable to use all disk space

Hello,

I created a RAID 5 with my dell server, it's 4 disks and the total disk space is 2.4 tb.

I installed ESXi as usual and now it will only allow me to creat 768 GB datastore.

When I go to create the datastore it says 2.4TB partition but only says 768 is free.

Ideas?

Hello.

kb 3371739 explains it all.

Good Luck!

ESX / ESXi has a 2 TB limit.

Split your disk in 2 virtual disk smaller.

I understand that, but it's not a virtual disk i'm trying to create. It's a datastore I'm trying to create.

It sees the 2.4 TB but only makes available 700+ GB avaliable to make a datastore.

As already said, split your RAID to two LUNs less than 2 TB minus 512 each and then you'll be able to use all disk space.

If you want 2.4TB datastore - create datastore on firsts LUN and add second as extent.

I mean Virtual Disk (VD) on RAID controller.

You have to build VD smaller than 2 TB.

Maybe in your RAID controller could be called in a different way...

Ahhh, ok now that's making sense.

But, before I continue on with the re-install.....

Why would only allow 700gb even though it shows 2.4tb? Wouldn't it allow me to create a datastore of 2TB since that's the limit?

I'm just concerned that I'm going to go through this whole reinstalled process and find that I still can only create 700gb's.

thoughts?
