Unable to shutdown VM in vSphere Client 5

Hello Everyone,

I had an issue where I cloned a users Win7 VM in order to make a template.  After cloning the VM I logged into it with my user credentials to drop it from the domain before making it a template.  After doing so I tried logging in with the admin account and was unable to do so.  I'm not sure what I did wrong here and was hoping to get some suggestions from the community here.  I found KB article 1004301 that suggests disabling the admin account on the source VM and that is what I'm doing at the moment while try the cloning process again.

Also, prior to cloning, I tried to shutdown the guest and power off but the VM turns back on automatically.  Not sure why this is.  I was hoping the VM would stay off so I could cold clone it but that doesn't look like an option as long as it keeps coming back on.

If you have any additional input please let me know.  Thanks!

The KB may not be applicable for window 7, its for windows vista.

For windows 7 No need to disable administartor account.

1.Clone the VM

2.Remove the network adapter of the cloned VM before powering ON.

3.Power and Login to the clone VM.

4.now change the server name and unjoin for domain.

5.convert that to template.

I would ask you check the virtual machine starup\shutdown setting

Select the server, Select the Configuration tab

Option Virtual machine Startup/Shutdown

there is option for automatic startup, remove from there.
