hi there,
Here's my issue. I had this vm in our environment. We tried to migrate the storage over somewhere - however in doing so - it crashed/error'd out. Unfortunately someone went to delete the VM from disk - via browsing the data stores and did not remove the VM from the inventory (right click - delete from disk) Now - the VM shows up in the inventory and has inaccessible in brackets is no longer active - there is nothing associated to it. But the only option that is available to me is migrate to storage. I want to remove the item from the inventory - but I haven't been able to figure out how to...
can someone give some advise. I've attched a pic with my dilemna. - thanks to all
Is the ESX host that the VM is running on part of a cluster? If your host is part of virtual center you should also try restarting the hostd service on the host. Logon to the console of the host and run 'service mgmt-vmware restart'. The ESX server will disconnect and reconnect to VC, you then might be able to remove the VM.
thanks for the quick reply
but yes - its part of a 4 ESX cluster...We had a power outage a while back but i wasn't able to try to remove the VM at that time. In restarting the services - are you hopeful that the option of removing the VM will be available to me?
Yes, after restarting mgmt-vmware server on the ESX host, you should be able to remove the VM. If not, I came across another post that might help. http://communities.vmware.com/thread/209459
thanks - i'll give that a go...
Have a look at :

Try using the removeOrphansFromvCenter.pl Script. This usually removes the orphaned VM.
