Unable to reconnect the HOST in the vCenter Server

Hi,

Today, One of the Host goes to not responded state. I have restarted the VPXA and VMware Management services but problem not resolved still my host is disconnected state.

i remove the host and tried to add the same host in the vCenter but i got timed out error?

can any one help me out from this?

Steps taken: 1. restarted VPXA and VMware management services 2. restarted the vCenter server 3. Killed VPX agent and restarted the services 4. able to ping the host with ip and host name.

Thanks in Advances

Follow the steps in http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003409 (Diagnosing an ESX Server that is Disconnected or Not Responding in VirtualCenter)

what do you mean? You can't login because you don't have permission/credentials to do so, or you get some soft of error message when trying to connect?

You could suffering from vmware-hostd hung problem. Go to ESX SC and restart mgmt-vmware service and make sure vmware-hostd services listening on all ports as listed below :

tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:12001 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 12548/vmware-hostd

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:80 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 12548/vmware-hostd

tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8307 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 12548/vmware-hostd

tcp 0 0 127.0.0.1:8309 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 12548/vmware-hostd

tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:443 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 12548/vmware-hostd

Tested on all ESX 4.0 U1, U2, & 4.1 all using same ports. Sometime after restart, vmware-hostd will take time to listen on port 8307 & 8309. I have to wait till 10 minutes for ESX 4.0 U2 case before I can login via vSphere client .
