Unable to login as root to Local TSM

Hallo,

I have an ESXi 4.1 server and I managed to lock myself out by giving read-only access to root in the VMWare Client...

However I can login to the server console as root and enabled Local TSM to fix that issue.

When I switch to local TSM with alt+F1 I'm promted for username and password.

I try to login as root with the correct password (I was able to login to the UI to enable TSM),

It says user/password is incorrect.

Has anyone ever had that problem and managed to login again without having to reinstall ESXi?

The server is not managed by any Vcenter server.

Any help is appreciated.

Kind regards,

Benjamin

Don't see how you can resolve this.... you can try to add this ESX to a vCenter (the 5.0 appliance for example) and connect it to an AD authentication source, giving an user admin rights and then entering on the vsphere client with this user.... but don't know if this will work.

Hallo,

I didn't test to import the server into a Vcenter because I thought without admin rights I couldn't get it imported.

Fortunatley the VMs could be turned off and I reset the system defaults of the ESXi and reconfigured the host. Everything is running fine again.
