Unable to create snapshot (general error) - Help Needed

Hello,

From 3 days, snapshot no more working with one of my VM (is a production machine).

From vSphere Client 5.5.0 i got a General Error in vSphere Client when i make a snapshot. In manage snapshot section, i see no snapshot

but when i go in the VM directory by ssh is see that below (it exist a few snapshots..)

I tried to create snapshot with and without memory data, but it still the same effect. (Snapshot is taken when VM is ON).

  • Do i have to try to consolidate disk ? It is secure ?
  • Someone can help me ?

Thanks in advance,

Michael

I found the problem Smiley Happy

Some VM had a CD/DVD mounted in vSphere. It worked until last week, don't know why this problem appear only now.

After disconnected CD, "manage snapshot" list still empty, i clicked consolidate a first time, after that, back to "manage snapshot" and my snapshots

appeared. And last step, i deleted all snapshot to merge all..

may be this will help somebody else..

Hi,

you should try to consolidate the disks, which is secure, unless your host server is on version 5.5 Update 3, as there is a huge bug in that version right now, that might leave you with a corrupt VM:

VMware KB: After Snapshot consolidation task, virtual machines running on VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 3 h...

Thanks for your answer.

I tried consolidate, but i take ~1 second, no error.. but in the diretory is still all that files and still cannot create snapshot.

EDIT 1:

Like before i have new files:

4.0G Oct 14 12:55 prod03-64-ubuntu-Snapshot143.vmsn

+ Delta files for this snapshot.. but in vsphere client he said he got a general error...

EDIT 2:

Even i consolidate my VM, the disk used in parameter is:  prod03-64-ubuntu/prod03-64-ubuntu-000007.vmdk

So it still use a snapshot.. 😞

Any other idea? Thanks for help
