Hi, first question, long time reader.
I recently installed my new Dell T610 ESXi and am managing the host in vCenter (both v4 U1). Obviously, the ESXi is installed with an evaluation license however i'd like to implement the ESXi license I received from VMware to enable unlimited CPUs (the machine has 2 sockets, 4 cores, hyperthreaded, for a total of 16 CPUs.
When I try to assign the ESXi license I get an error "there are features in use that prevent license assignment" - "vCenter agent for ESX server"
What is strange is that this is an ESXi host, but the ESX agent is installed. How do I remove this agent so I can assign the new license.
Thanks in advance
If you received the free ESXi license, it will not allow you to add thie host to a vCenter Server.
You will need one of the licensing listed on the link above:
http://www.vmware.com/vmwarestore/vsphere_purchaseoptions.html
If you check it, there is a feature called "vCenter agent", that's the one you need.

The free edition of ESXi 5 cannot be managed by vCenter Server.
You have to remove it from vCenter.
Or buy a licenced version.
