Hi,
I started with 4 esxi 5 servers for testing purpose with evaluation mode, and added common datastore on all 4 servers for VMs that were working fine. but successfully testing i formatted 2 esxi servers and installed ESXi 4 on it, now when i am adding that common storage in these 2 ESXi 4 servers i am getting the attached error, i found the solution for it to delete partition using fdisk command for that LUN,but this LUN is common for all 4 servers and VMs are running on it for 2 ESXi 5 Host, so please anyone has this problem solution
One more problem is that Time showing in hostd.log file is different as i configured in esxi configuration why its showing different time.
Thanks Sagar

Hi,
did you format your storage with vmfs5?
If you wan´t to use the storage from both systems, ESXi 4 and 5 you have to use VMFS3
Frank
Q.1 Yes, this LUN is working as VMFS 5 in 2 ESXi 5 host but not able to add the same LUN as vmfs 3 in esxi 4 hosts. It means formatting this lun with vmfs 3 is the last solution for this scene???????
Q.2 i have one more scene, in which i am getting the same error while in that only one esxi 4.1 update 1 is running.i have attached one LUN in windows 2008 virtual machine as RDM(Physical) and after some days i removed this lun from that vm, now when i am trying to add it in storage as datastore, its giving the same error, while the vmfs has not yet been changed????????
Thanks
Sagar
Hi,
Q1
you could not use a vmfs5 formatted lun in esxi 4. You have to use vmfs3 to be compatible
Q2
If you use RAW Device mapping, the partition is formated with NTFS (Microsoft) or whatever you are using as a virtual machine.
So if you wan´t to use this storage in a ESXi environment, you have to format it with vmfs
Frank
hi,
Ok, fdisk commands to delete the partition or is there any other way to do it.
Thanks
sagar
You could simple format the lun with your vsphere client while adding it as a new data store
