Hello group, I am installing HP servers where vSphere ESXi boot from a USB drive, what do you think of this? You see reliable? At the moment I work well, and I think if were to fail could put another usb disk with the same version of vSphere and could recover the existing datastore, right?
Thanks in advance.

Hi mikimpc,
When ESXi boots the operation system is load in memory, so the usb device is used at the boot moment after this the memory is used to running the ESXi .
Your datastore is a usb device too ?

Thanks for answering, my datastore consists of a RAID 1 of 2 HDDs of 1 Tb.
So you have a fault tolerance in Raid context, for your ESXi backup you need backup only a configurations files and you can use a host profile feature as solution for do this.

Thanks, anyway, my theory is correct? Datastore information is stored on the same hard drives and therefore even replace my USB disk spoiled, to start operating will continue to have my virtual machines?
Greetings.
Yes maybe you need register your vms again because the host can lost the reference for object, but in this case the unique configuration lost is the host configuration, your vms keep working.

Thank you very much.
At the end we believe that the fault is in the memory module in server.
