Hi all,
Question. I have a 2008R2 Terminal Server running on vSphere 5. Clients connect to this server through the RDP Client from Windows 7 based desktops. Works fine.
However, i cannot get redirection of loval "Portable Media Devices" to work, such as eg. iPhones. Simple disks will get redirected to the users' sessions, but not the more specific usb/plug and play devices. These particular devices will get redirected on a physical 2008R2 Terminal Server.
So i added a usb controller to the 200R2 VM, bit still no dice.
So is there a way to get this working? I have users that need to get pictures of digital camera's/iPhones that show up as portable media devices.
Thanks,
Dennes
Hello,
The users are connecting the usb devices to their own pc?
For them to be able to do so, after having connected the usb device to their own machine, edit setting of the vm via the vpshere client and add the usb device.
Then it will work.
Note:
The USB storage may be presented as storage to a VM
Requirements:
- Virtual hardware version must be greater or equal to 7
- Usd controller
- Usb device
- Usb format should be ext3 or fat32
2 types of USB passthrough
- host connected (Vsphere4.x and 5.x) : USB plugged directly into the Esxi/Esx host
- Client connected (Vsphere 5.x) : allows usb device plugged into a user workstation
Client Connected disadvantage: Closing the Vsphere client which initiated the usb connections disconnects the usb device from the virtual machine
host connected disadvantage : does not support usb 3.0
Kind Regards,
Garish
Check this :
Well, the devices are client connected, but not through the vSphere client. They connect to an RDP session on the virtual Terminal Server.
Most devices get redirected fine when connecting from that same client to a physical Terminal Server, but will not redirect when connecting to a virtual Terminal Server.
