Hi All,
I'm currently running my workstation inside a VM. I have passed through several USB ports into my VM to allow such things as keyboard / mouse input. I'm now trying to passthrough my iphone and a USB cdrom drive too the VM which is not working.
The odd part is... If remove the USB cdrom drive (not present during vshpere boot) and plug my keyboard (present during vsphere boot) into the same port.. The keyboard is detected and can be used by the VM. Whith this example... I'm thinking I have to reboot the server with everything plugged into inorder for the VM to be able to use it?
Do i need a USB hub? Is there a process i can restart on vpshere to get the new device deteched?
I'm running vpshere 5.0 update 1.
There are no restart required, but depending on how it's going to be detect. There are two method, either from your client access or from the host itself.
Refer to this guide will help you on how to doing usb pass through.
Hey,
the link does not fit my situation but I thank you for the response.
In my case... I have passed through a USB port on the motherboard directly too the VM. When i plug anything into that USB that was not plugged in during boot, my VM failes to see it.
If a plugin a device into the same port that was present during vsphere host boot... It's detected. I should also note that the vsphere host reports there are no USB devices detected to be passed though. I feel this is correct since i have nothing plugged into a USB port that is NOT passed through.
