USB Pass Through from RDP7

Can you pass through a USB scanner using RDP 7 on a windows XP/Dell box to a Windows 7 VM running on ESXi?

I would imagine that it is possible. You would need to see if RDP sees the scanner as a supported PnP Device for Pass-through. Just look at the Options in RDC for Local Devices and resources. Click on the more button and see if it is listed there. If so, then it may very well be possible to use through RDP.

If not, then is the "USB over IP" software solution the only method to make scanners pass through?

I would imagine so. You would probably need some third party tool in order to do it if it doesn't work through the local resources.
