From https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1021345 I don't especially see is a USB modem a compatible device with ESXi 7.x. I suppose it is treated as a USB dongle and any new device should be able to be passthrough to VM. Am I right? How can I be sure when buying a new USB modem that I will be able to pass it through to a VM?
Currently I have a old LTE modem, which looks like a multi-mode USB and shows in ESXi7 as a storage device. Since there is no VMLinux device stack anymore I guess that's why it isn't working, because it cannot switch to modem mode. That's why I conclude I need to buy a new GSM modem.
I would appreciate any thoughts on this.
