Hi ,
I recently installed ESX4.1 std in one of my DELL 2930 Server after that there is a requirement for data movement from my 8gb Transcent USB device to one to the vmfs datastore, but unfortunately the OS is not able to detect the USB, I mean it detecting but unable to provide a mounting device.
for ex /dev/sdx
I checked in log /var/log/messages i found the USB entry with some scsi 6: USB.xxxxxxxxxx. but though it is not showing in
fdisk -l, I tried all possibilites but it failed. the same dongle is working fine with ESX3.5 server with the same Hardware.
Can any budy help me on this what could be the reason for this
thanks
E Prasad
You probably need to follow the suggestions from http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1023976.
But beware: You will lose the possibility to route a USB device into a VM under 4.1.
You want use the USB as a filesystem for your ESX?
USB has changed a lot from 3.x to 4.x and now (4.1) you can attach a USB devito to a VM (but with performance limitatio).
But from service console a lot of USB device now are not usable at all, and this is worst with ESXi.
IMHO go to a NAS solution that support NFS or iSCSI.
Or use a backup server solution.
