USB 3.0 not accessible

Hi All,

I am using Vmware 6.0, on a HP Pro Server with 2 virtual Machines in that. i attached External HDD USB 3.0 physically on the server, and add xHCI driver on host, still I am not able to access the USB HDD. OS installed in VM is Windows Server 2008 R2. its showing yes Exclamation Mark in Device Manager. I also tried with updating VMware tools but o luck.

Please some one can help

What is a virtul HW version on the affected VM?

There are a couple of issues here.

(1) There is no built-in USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 2008 just like Windows 7.

(2) There is no official support for USB 3.0 in ESXi 6.0 for Windows 2008.

The VMware Tools does not supply the USB 3.0 drivers.

What you could try to do is install the Intel USB 3.0 drivers inside the Windows 2008 R2 VM. You can download from this link.

But make sure that the VM Hardware Compatibility is set to either 10 or 11.

This is to how it is done on Windows 7 VMs to support USB 3.0 passthrough in Workstation/Fusion.
