I am using the Intel USB 3.0 ports on my asrock server board and applied latest ESXi 5.5 patch that allows USB 3.0 guest passthrough.
I have a Windows 8.1 VM and assigned the XHCI controller, however, any USB 3.0 HD or Thumb drive I connect to the Guest VM runs at USB 2.0 speeds (tops out at approx 35MB/sec).
On another USB 3.0 controller with NEC chipset directly passed through to the same VM, achieves expected speeds of more than 70MB/sec.
I have tried setting the BIOS to Auto/Smart Auto/Enabled for the controller but doesn't make any difference, speeds are always slow.
Any ideas people?
