Two versions of VMtools

Hi All,

I did a V2V of Windows 2003 SP2 from ESX 3.5 to ESXi 5.1. After migration, the vmtools did not get uninstalled. Hence I added the new iSO image of vmtools. I was able to install the new version.

Now post reboot, I can see two version of vmtools installed in that machine. Can someone guideme as how to uninstall the previous version alone.

Cheers,

Muthu

Why not uninstall both versions from add/remove programs and then install VMware tools again? This will ensure that the correct and updated version of VMware tools is installed.

When you login into the machines and go to Control panel---->Programs and features, you will find both the versions. Delete the older one looking at the version.

If you do not recognize which version to delete you can mount the VMware tools again and then browse it and find the manifest file. See the version of vmtoolsd and you will know the new one Smiley Happy

Hi F10,

I don't see two versions in the app/remove programs for me to uninstall and re-install.

Hi Abhilash,

I'm unable to find Programs and features in control panel. Can you let me know as where it will be present in Control Panel for Windows 2k3 machine.

Appreciate your help guys...

Cheers,

Muthu

Add/Remove is what i meant too... In newer versions of windows its called programs and features Smiley Happy

If you don't see two versions there then you don't have two versions. I don't think you can have to versions anyway. It would overwrite the other one.

So bottom line, nothing to bother about.

Yeah, I agree with Abhilash. It would be good if you share screenshot which indicates that both versions are installed.

Hi F10, Abhilash,

I had the previous version's upgrade notification in the bottom right desktop window, along with the new version of vmtools icon. I just disabled the icon and it is no more now. Not sure though it will come back after reboot. Thanks for your help guys.

Cheers,

Muthu.
