Two vSphere environments on same network/domain

HI all,

Just wanted to say hello as it's my first posting on the VMware forums.

Currently, we have a vSphere environment in place, consisting of 14 host servers running ESXI 5.5.

I'm looking into utilizing an old retired server to install an instance of ESXI 5.5, to form a basic segregated testing environment.

I expect to build the testing environment with at least one virtual local only network, but the actual host physical PC will be on the live production network, providing me the ability to use the vSphere client to connect to both production and test environments.

I was hoping to assess the risk posed by setting it up this way as I do not want the testing environment interfering with production.

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Scott

If you are planning to create a different  vcenter and add this test server to that vCenter , then I dont see any problem in this. I could not understand "one virtual local only network". But in general, your compute resources are not shared with production. Make sure the Storage and nework load put on test env does not impact production resources.
